After the massive clean-up, it's time to start moving in. We 'officially' moved in last Sunday (15 April), after the 'xie tu' and 'ru huo' rituals.

At the same time, we also purchased furniture and food stuff amounting to more than S$600! We spent the most at Ikea. I can't remember the exact amount but it allowed me to sign up as a Friends of Ikea. Of course, it took me quite a fair bit of time to fix up the furniture itself. My parents helped too, as we were busy running around moving boxes of clothes, books and what's nots.

We cooked up a storm on Monday night. Actually, it was quite simple fare - veggies, omelette and chicken fillet in Ikea meatball sauce. Hard work it may be, but I appreciated the quality time we spent together preparing dinner. :)

Well, the renovations are over. We are now in the midst of clearing up, arranging our furniture and getting ready for the next stage of our lives.

Poignant memories struck me as it was barely a few months ago when we were scrambling around, trying to decide who the best contractor or ID would be. In the process, we got to know Bryan Wong who was one of our intended choice, except that our limited budget restricted us. Then came the mad rush for furniture, lights, accessories, sinks, hood and hob. I'm glad that it's finally over. :)

Finally found some bits of energy to post (work has been sapping everything out of me). We fired up the refrigerator last Friday and then placed some packet and canned drinks into it. I think when we move in this weekend, we'll be putting some fresh food so that the refrigerator doesn't overwork due to its empty interiors.

We also did another round of cleaning for the flat, except the windows. I had to get on my knees to clean up the dust that's trapped in the corners of the flat and skirting.

Next up - commence shifting in this coming Saturday, though I'll be taking off on Friday so that we can go get the remaining stuff needed.

To purchase!
- Study table (S$199) from Ikea
- Chairs (S$50) from Ikea
- Interim mattress (S$149) from Ikea

The refrigerator and washing machine are here! Not without some minor cock-ups by Harvey Norman though.

Initially, I remembered that when we purchased the washing machine, it was mentioned that our delivery will be on 31 March from 10am to 3pm. As such, I didn't check the invoice, but when I checked the invoice today, I got a shock when it was written that delivery was from 3pm to 8pm. Hurriedly, I tried to call the delivery hotline and got no response. I elicited the same response from Harvey Norman (Millenia Walk). Utter crap.

Then the Citygas person turned up at 10am (instead of the mentioned 2pm). He was actually the same guy who came to fix up the gas heater and gas pipes in the kitchen. He fixed up the rubber hose to the hob and also the meter inside the gas compartment. After testing that everything was working fine without leaks, he left. In fact, I think it was completed in half an hour or so.

In the meantime, my wife managed to contact Harvey Norman (Millenia Walk) and was told that the delivery would be 11am to 3pm and the delivery person will contact us an hour before delivery. Since we didn't get any calls, we tabao-ed lunch back to the house. 5 minutes into our lunch, the delivery guy called and said that he will be reaching in 10 minutes' time. And when I queried what he was delivering, I had a shock when he said the refrigerator only! Then I asked about the washing machine and he said that will be done later in the afternoon!

I heaved a sigh of relief when he called back 2 minutes later and said that the delivery was, indeed, for the refrigerator and washing machine. Eventually when he showed me the delivery orders, he pointed out that the refrigerator was meant to be delivered at 11-3 and the washing machine was at 3-8.

Anyway, both appliances are sitting in the kitchen and service yard respectively. We haven't had the opportunity to try them yet as the refrigerator can only be turned on 4 hours after it has been placed in position, while we didn't have any clothes to wash then.

And after close to 2 months of renovations (6 weeks actually), the entire process is finally over! Yesterday was the handover of flat and payment of the remainder of the renovation costs. The final amount calculated for the entire renovation was S$15,577 instead of the initally quoted S$16,607. And that's because we took out the TV console (S$680) and reduced the size of the living room mirror (S$530).

We arrived at the flat early yesterday to inspect the final 'artwork' and got the painter to do some minor touchups. And when Henry arrived, we did a final walkabout with him before settling the payment and handover.

Last Saturday, we dropped by Tanjong Katong Shopping Complex where we ordered our curtains from Jimmy Textiles. We were given an initial quote of S$1,100 a few weeks ago but when we were there last week, the amount we were re-quoted was S$930, which was much cheaper! Of course having read rave reviews about Jimmy Textiles on Renotalk, we didn't hesitate any further and ordered curtains on the spot. We took full-length day & night curtains for the living room and full-length night curtains for the master bedroom and guest room. We also had half-length night curtains for the study.

We had the final drilling of the holes for the curtain rails last Sunday (really prompt service, I must admit) and today, the contractor came down to fix up the rails and curtains.

What's left:
- Delivery of Samsung refrigerator / LG washing machine (next Sat)
- Gas turn-0n by CityGas (next Sat)
- Delivery of Cellini furniture (21 Apr)
- Delivery of LG LCD TV & HTS (21 Apr)

The renovations are almost complete! Today, I dropped by the place after taking the afternoon off to see the doctor.

The workers were putting the finishing touches to the veneer cabinets in the kitchen and also the bedroom. On top of that, the mirrors for the living room and 2 toilets have been fixed up. Even the toilet accessories have been put up.

Just some final coats to the paintwork, and the chemical wash and it's the completion of the entire renovation!

The carpentry for the kitchen cabinets, vanity cabinets and wardrobe are in! Check out the pictures at my wife's Multiply site.

We also went shopping at IT Show yesterday. The show started on Thursday and today is going to be the last day. I had the initial plan to get my wife a new camera - Fujifilm Z3 but we went away with more than just the camera. We came away with a new LG 32LC2R, which was going for a price of $1,199 with a free Home Theatre System LH-T3602SE.

1. LG 32LC2R 32" LCD TV

2. LG LH-T3602SE Home Theatre System

The air-con is up! It took an entire day, 2 men and 2 police officers knocking on our door to finally complete the installation of the air-con last Saturday. As I was working on that day, my father had to stand in for me to let the guys in to fix it up. My wife dropped by later on.

Now what about the 2 police officers? We didn't realise that drilling weren't allowed by HDB on weekends, until they came knocking on our door to say that someone complained about noise. Anyway, they took down my wife's particulars and the permit number and left after warning the contractors and us. Damn.

Anyway, I dropped by over the weekend to wrap up the air-con in the insulation which it came with. This is to prevent dust and paint from getting to it and staining the air-con unnecessarily.

The house has also been painted in the colours we wanted, although it's the first coat of paint only.

Windows for the service yard were also up when I visited yesterday.

Photos are available at my wife's Multiply site.
