Tips to getting your desired flat in the Walk-in Selection1.
Get "insider" information, if possible. This does not only refer to friends who have spouses or relatives working inside HDB but also people who work with the media, especially The Straits Times. The information to be published in the next day's paper will be required to be submitted by noon on that day itself. This information includes the advertisement for WIS which will be launched the next day.

Be hardworking. For me, I will wake up at 6am in the morning to check my email and HDB's website. You may also choose to wake up earlier to scan through the newspapers.

Pay attention to the news. Occasionally, the news will have some coverage on flats the night before any WIS or BTO launch. However, this may not work all the time.

Keep track of Build-To-Order (BTO) flats in the town you want. Once the flats have been completed and you see residents starting to move into the flats, there's a likelihood that these flats might be released for WIS soon.
5.
Ask friends who might be staying in the area that you want. Check with them if there are still empty flats within the vicinity.
